September 6, 2021 | Tokyo – The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Japan (AHK Japan), will open the "German Chamber Vaccination Camp” in Tokyo in September and October and offer COVID-19 vaccination to more than 2,000 employees and their families of its corporate members. AHK Japan, acting as the official representative of German business in Japan, has taken up the offer to participate in the occupational inoculation program of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW).

AHK Japan is the only foreign chamber that has setup a vaccination camp on its own thus contributing to increasing the vaccination rate, safeguarding the health and well-being of a substantial number of employees and their families.

From 8 September 2021 onwards, employees of Corporate Members and their families, will be allowed to take their first shots. AHK Japan has geared up the capacity to serve 2,100 people interested in vaccination. This also includes companies from the European and the Foreign Business Community who have not yet had the opportunity to be vaccinated. As a contribution to the local community, AHK also offers spots for small and medium enterprises (SME) in the area of Chiyoda ward.

"German companies with their 450 subsidiaries are an important pillar of the economic community in Japan. Our initiative will support Japan’s effort to increase the vaccination rate in this country", said Marcus Schürmann, Chief Executive Officer of AHK Japan and Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Japan.

In recent weeks, the Government of Japan has made considerable efforts to further increase the pace of vaccination in Japan. "Despite all the challenges involved, from the point of view of German business creating 265.000 jobs in Japan, it is the only way to eventually end the pandemic and to maintain the excellent economic relations between our two countries”, said Marcus Schürmann.

German companies are an indispensable part of bilateral relations, generating revenues both in Japan and Germany, and guaranteeing substantial employment. Despite difficult framework conditions caused by the COVID19 pandemic, 83% of the German companies in Japan were able to make profits in the last financial year. Almost 20% of the companies report profit margins of more than 10% in relation to sales revenues. In the medium term, 73% of the companies expect increasing sales and 55% even increasing profits.
